Since receiving my graduate degree
from Yale in 1981 in the field of mind-body medicine, I have been investigating
and utilizing cutting-edge therapies. Over the past decade I have watched the
research evolve in utilizing low-level electrical impulses to accelerate the
healing of wounds, bones, depression and anxiety. Using only a 9-volt battery,
a process known as cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES) has now been proven
in scientific findings to significantly decrease stress, anxiety, depression,
insomnia, pain, headache, muscle tension, attention deficit and substance abuse
(alcohol, drugs, and/or nicotine). Relative to pain, it has been shown helpful
for acute and chronic pain, cervical, back, joint and dental pain, and pain
associated with regional pain syndrome (RSD), arthritis, fibromyalgia, and
chronic fatigue syndrome.
This technology has begun to be used in academic and
corporate settings. Because CES produces the release of endorphins (the body's
natural pain-killing substances) and neurochemicals such as serotonin, there is
an experience of stress relief with heightened mental alertness and focus. For
me personally, CES has produced increased attention to details in the area of
organization and paperwork, allowing me to effectively complete projects in less
time. The literature reports and I have experienced a sense of well being and
mild euphoria lasting throughout a day. I use a CES unit while working at my
desk in the morning and have noticed increased productivity, creativity and
enthusiasm extending through the day and evening. Because the CES technology
naturally releases neurotransmitters in the brain, it serves to decrease
cravings (for certain foods like carbohydrates, nicotine, alcohol and drugs)
and increases an overall feeling of relaxation and well being as well as
improving the depth and duration of nighttime sleep. Studies also show a
reduction in gastric hypersecretion, which could assist with decreasing acid
reflux disease and stomach acidity.
With CES effectiveness, medication
for pain, anxiety, depression, and hypertension have at times reduced by at
lease one-third. Studies show increases in mental and physical energy,
alertness, and attention. Of the many scientific research studies done with
this technology, none have shown side effects, except for mild vertigo in some
people with a history of vertigo.
As a registered nurse, executive
coach, and psychotherapist, I wish I had begun before to use CES technology,
both personally and professionally. As a psychotherapist, I have the professional
license required to order this technology. It is my personal mission to inform
those in homes and workplaces that this device can be of benefit. By
introducing CES into the workplace, the corporate climate could be enhanced;
business productivity and the emotional/physical health of executives could be
improved. Studies with CES which show improved concentration, test scores, and
enhanced cognitive functions would indicate that in the workplace, CES units at
every employee's desk could augment any company's forward thrust.
It would be my pleasure to speak with
you or a representative from your Human Relations Department or Employee
Assistance Program about what I consider this microcurrent marvel now available
for workplace applications. The cost of this technology is affordable at home
and at work.
